Smart Alec in training

Wanting to close the blinds, Max attempts to reach the adjustment stick...it's just out of reach.  He goes to get the stool.

Dan: Maybe you should try standing on your tippy toes.

Max: I did try standing on my tippy toes....genius.

Looking for something to do this weekend?

Come to Corinth Theatre-Arts and see The Fantasticks!

I sing and dance and sweat and spit.  Fun for the whole family...except maybe those that sit on the front row.

Ice cream cake and brownie hangover

3 months.  3 months worth of banality and divine simplicity to impart in such a way as to capture your interest.  Where to begin...

Somebody rolled my yard on my birthday.

You remember those balls with the knobs all over that bounced and vibrated across the floor?  That's what Max reminds me of when he Wii Boxes.

After wii-boxing, Ava makes fun of Max's heavy breathing.  It's hilarious.

Ava called me to her room at 2 o'clock the other morning to tell me her movies had fallen over on the shelf.  I straightened them.  She said "thanks," and went back to sleep.

I've got a job interview sometime in the near future for something within Caterpillar that actually requires my degree.  It involves a lot of travel and I really want it.  It's a regional job so I don't know how many applicants I'm up against.

I was pleased with 5 of 8 of my performances of the Bear.  I am quite happy to be shorn.

I've been playing a lot of poker lately.  When I lose, I'm cranky.  Thank you friends for loving (or tolerating) me anyway.

We don't have many volunteers for set builds anymore.  I guess that's my fault.  At least it's my responsiblity...and I don't know how to fix it.

I got sunburned while gutting a gas pump saturday.  Out of the estimated (by me) 188 billion people that have ever lived...like three can make that claim.  And 2 of them are lying.

God and Mammon is about challenging one's religious stand and looking at one's faith from outside the box.  I doubt many Bible belters will see it.  Fewer will get it for refusal to see past the language.

I'm rehuge.  I just made that word up...but it's applicable.

I need a wheelbarrow.

That's all I got.

There's no place like home...

Well, I was going to provide pictorial evidence of the disaster area that is my kingdom, but my cellphone and laptop apparently aren't speaking to each other.  However, at the sluggish pace my local supervisor and insurance adjuster are moving you'll probably get to see the devastation firsthand before it's cleared.

As I returned home from my poker game Tuesday night, I was blockaded by ACE and God.  ACE was repairing power lines and God knocked some trees into my road.  Upon learning it would be several hours before I could get home, I went and stayed the night at mom's.  I went home yesterday morning at 5 to get dressed for work (I had to drive through the next-door field) to find that my beloved willow tree is gone.  One of my bradford pears is beheaded, and the two trees that hold my hammock were pretty severely damaged.  The Dodds feel they can both be saved though.  One of the branches fell on the little house and broke the porch...rafters and all.  I also lost some shingles on the main house so I'll probably have to get a new roof. Thank God there was no real damage to the house.  Nate's dad. Nate, and I spent about an hour picking up garbage from the yard.  Fun.  My deductible is $500, so I wish I hadn't spent that $100 getting my air conditioner fixed Monday.  I am currently selling about 120 DVD's if you're interested.  $5 apiece or 5 for $20.

I took off work early to talk to the insurance people.  Plus I was tired because I didn't sleep well at mom's house.  I went to the bank and saw Jared.  Since I was at the bank cashing HIS check from poker night, I offered to buy him lunch.  He declined but joined me at Pepper's at his own expense.  (I now interrupt this post to tell you that Pepper's potato salad is exquisite.)  We saw the Walters there and they reminded me that HP was open (I'd completely forgotten about it) so Jared and I went to see that.  Better than the first two....but they ruined my favorite part (Dumbledore won't go quietly).

What has happened since my last post....

We performed the Odd Couple.  It went well, though we didn't well as many tickets as we'd hoped.  Thanks to those of you that came to see it.  To those of you that didn't, may your cows give only 2% milk.

I emceed the Maggies.  I didn't screw up enough to burn a negative impression into the memories of the attendees, so I'll count it a success.

I had my 10 year high school reunion.  It was fun, but no one on here knows any of the people so I'll not expound.   I did swim in Pickwick Lake and turn my toenails brownish yellow.  Luckily the chlorine in Pa's pool seems to have negated the effect.

Went to Uncle Shorty's for 4th of July.  The kids entertained everyone with their adulation of the fireworks.

I reread Huckleberry Finn, this time because I wanted to and not because I had to.  Two great things I took from it.  One is a literary interpretation of a philosophy I've developed recently.  Conmen join Huck and Jim on the river and in time lead them to believe they are a duke and a king.  Huck soon sees the truth but doesn't contest it because there's just no point upsetting the balance.  He knows they've no status, but as long as their claims aren't damaging, he lets it go.  I hear people make claims that aren't true, but I find it's preferable to let them wallow in their self-satisfaction.  It's actually a little entertaining.  I just enjoyed the episode because it fit my thoughts.  The second deals with the whole book and the fact that Huck feels he's going to Hell for helping Jim escape.  Now this is no secret as it's the main extrapolation studied, but I enjoyed the way Twain showed how twisted our moral compass can become.  Books are better when they're not force-read.

What I predict will happen before my next post...

I'll have a bear-like beard for auditions for The Sneeze.

I'll have read Deathly Hallows.

We're going to Valleri's wedding this weekend.

MAX MARSH will astound the masses as a fish in Seussical.  Come see it.

Bloggetty Blog

Well, I'm at my mother's house waiting for my children to awaken.  They're good kids most of the time, but perfection when unconscious. tiarava

So what have you been up to lately?

That sounds like fun.  Me?  Well, mostly life has been spent at the theatre these last few weeks.  We're doing The Odd Couple this weekend and next.  It's a bit demanding, especially on the schedule, but always worth it.  I did find a problem with being on the play selection committee.....I want to audition for every single show next season.  That's not possible I know, but I think I'll audition and let Director Dan decide which ones I'm not right for.  By the way, if any of you are interested in becoming board members at the theatre we're vacating several positions with this rotation.  If you're willing to help with the masterminding of our community's theatrical scene as well as some degree of grunt work (i.e. set builds and ushering) then just submit a letter to the theatre regarding why you want to do so and the reason(s) we should let you.

I walked around my kingdom yesterday.  It's only about 2 acres.  It's a small kingdom, but that's good if you like walking around it.  It all started with my usual homecoming routine.  I get the mail and back into the carport.  Then I peruse the post in the truck so I can separate the junk from the keepers.  While doing so, I heard a rustling to the left and looked over to see this....snakey

As fate would have it, I had not yet removed the shovel I used to plant Mom's Mothers Day present....so I retrieved it from the back of the Tarhoe and seperated snakey's head from his body.  In the process he hissed at me and his mouth was white.  I didn't think it was a cotton mouth but I took it to my Paw for an expert opinion.  He didn't know what kind it was (most likely chicken) but he said something about it's lack of teeth meaning it might be poisonous.  Wound up talking to Buck for about an hour, as is bound to happen.  He told me about his gardens.  He's got the same 4 as usual, plus this year he planted the circle pond levee and the back yard of my grandmother's abandoned house (now he won't have to mow it).  He's almost 76 and he's out there with a tiller, hoe, bulldozer, or tractor every day; and he can tell you every location of the dozens of types of edible flora he's currently cultivating.  You're welcome to come harvest anything you might need....he usually plows a lot of it under because he can't pick it fast enough to sell it at the farmer's market.  After leaving there, (having tossed snakey over the ditch), my trusty shovel and I proceeded to the aforementioned levee to see his handiwork (he's never done that before, but it could turn out to be quite attractive.)  Then I went through my yard digging up anthills and random (though not all by any means) weeds.  Then I dug out my drainage path and returned the dirt to the other side of the driveway.  It was a peaceful afternoon.  I went in and got dressed for the sponsor show.  Still a few hiccups, but hopefully with tonight's added tension and resulting energy we'll be pushed over the top to amateur acting astonishment.

Velveeta-zane,

Dan of my word.
